About the role
- Provide personalized 1:1 in-home tutoring focused on structured literacy (dyslexia focus)
- Help students with daily activities and offer moral support
- Deliver tailored instruction based on the student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
- Use trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming teaching practices
- Adapt lessons for severe academic delays and individual needs
- Establish trust, safety, and rapport gradually through consistent, respectful interactions
- Work independently in a home-based setting and manage sessions 2-3 times per week after 3pm
- Serve students in Inglewood, CA and across Los Angeles
Requirements
- Special education experience (preferred)
- Experience working with students with complex emotional, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental profiles
- Calm, soft-spoken, and understanding of behavioral and emotional regulation challenges
- Able to establish trust and safety over time through consistency and respect
- Creative and flexible in instructional approach, without being overstimulating
- Experience with students who prefer solitude or struggle with traditional classroom environments
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming teaching practices
- Ability to adapt lessons for severe academic delays
- Patient, reliable, and able to build rapport gradually
- Comfortable working independently in a home-based setting
- Ability to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring and follow IEP-based instruction
- Availability for 2-3 sessions a week after 3pm
