About the role
- Provide personalized 1:1 in-home tutoring for students with special needs in Los Angeles, CA
- Help students with daily activities and offer moral support
- Deliver tailored instruction based on students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Support foundational literacy (reading and basic writing), writing, early math, and communication
- Help develop expressive communication through casual conversation and targeted SEL strategies
- Incorporate short conversational breaks to build trust and encourage emotional expression
- Use positive reinforcement and simple reward systems to maintain motivation
- Adapt instruction to align with IEP goals and current therapy supports
- Engage students through interests to make learning enjoyable
- Work weekdays from 3pm onwards, typically 2 sessions per week
Requirements
- Strong background in special education and instructional strategies for neurodivergent students
- Experience with minimally verbal learners and nontraditional communication methods
- Able to create and maintain a calm, predictable learning environment with consistent routines
- Skilled in using positive reinforcement to encourage participation and progress
- Creative and capable of integrating student interests to boost motivation
- Fluent in English and Spanish (required)
- Male tutor preferred based on student’s responsiveness and comfort level
- Availability weekdays from 3pm onwards, 2x a week
- Comfortable providing 1:1 in-home tutoring and helping with daily activities
