About the role
- Manage staff, which may include interviewing and selection, job description preparation, professional development, goal setting, performance management, coaching and mentoring, employee counseling, and separations. Approve courses of action on salary administration, hiring, corrective action, and terminations.
- Allocate clear responsibilities within the clinical coding group to enable all targets to be met within timelines. Delegate tasks to team members as appropriate, providing guidance and support as necessary.
- Provide general coding training to all staff performing coding activities.
- Participate in the development and implementation of processes, procedures and training for the data management function as directed.
- Ensure that all coding activities are conducted in line with regulatory guidelines, SOPs, and client expectations. Ensure that coding tasks are completed on time, accurately and within budget. Liaise effectively with colleagues in other functional groups, and provide support to the lead data managers by attending project and client team meetings when required.
- Provide accurate project metrics and resource information at the request of management, and effectively use this information to manage progress of assigned projects.
- Provide project forecasting of hours and identify resource requirements.
- Supervise all coding activities and perform an ongoing review of output for consistency and appropriateness in line with study specific guidelines to ensure quality expectations are met.
- Communicate with outside organizations that create and maintain licensing dictionaries.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification
- Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 5+ years).
- 1+ year of leadership responsibility.
- Ability to effectively apply knowledge and skills in a highly organized fashion while adhering to regulatory guidelines, SOPs and client expectations
- Excellent understanding of clinical/medical terminology
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail and skill with numbers
- Ability to use interactive computer programs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Ability to work productively with minimal supervision
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality with medical records and client's proprietary data
