About the role

Help shape architectural design and technology roadmaps for complex, high-volume, mission-critical Financial Services applications
Design solutions meeting functional and non-functional requirements using AWS and SaaS components
Analyse existing implementations (including legacy systems) and present strategic and pragmatic options/Key Design Decisions
Define as-is and to-be architectural states and transition roadmaps balancing strategic direction with business delivery
Implement policies and standards guiding technology delivery and ensure adherence
Assess 3rd party providers to ensure compliance with security, privacy, data integration, performance and reliability standards
Actively address complex risks, issues and dependencies across teams and external owners
Work with Lead Architect, Product Managers, Delivery and Technical Leads to influence and define technology roadmap
Coach and mentor other architects, technical leads and engineers and represent the architecture community internally and externally
Communicate architectural vision and facilitate discussions about high risk and complexity with stakeholders

Demonstrable experience in designing complex solutions balancing strategic direction and business delivery
Experience in defining roadmaps and influencing, communicating and guiding stakeholders
Conceptual and strategic thinker
Technical expert with significant experience in modern, cloud-based technology standards and practices
Strong system analysis skills, including analysing legacy systems and presenting Key Design Decisions
Experience with Java and Amazon AWS
Experience with SpringBoot, Oracle DB, Terraform, React, AWS API Gateway and RDS (beneficial)
Domain experience in Financial Services (Retail Financial Services / Banking / Insurance / Credit / Loans)
Ability to address complicated risks, issues and dependencies and manage external dependencies
Experience assessing 3rd party providers for security, privacy, data integration, performance and reliability
Excellent communication skills; able to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and stakeholders at all levels
Experience coaching/mentoring architects, technical leads and engineers
Willingness to undertake credit, CIFAS, Right to Work checks and possibly DBS (criminal records) check; disclose unspent convictions where applicable
