About the role

  • Network Design & Implementation: Design, deploy, configure, and maintain highly available and scalable Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), and WiFi networking infrastructure.
  • Broadcast & A/V Integration: Support the integration of IP-based and cloud-based broadcasting technologies, ensuring connectivity for video and audio production equipment, editing suites, and transmission links. Expertise in SMPTE ST 2110, broadcast audio and video network protocols, and associated workflows is essential.
  • Hardware Management: Configure and install various network devices and services, including routers, switches, load balancers, and VPNs, often involving enterprise-grade Arista hardware.
  • Performance Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Proactively monitor network performance using specialised tools to identify and resolve complex issues (e.g., latency, packet loss, bandwidth bottlenecks) to minimise disruption to live operations.
  • Security & Compliance: Implement and enforce network security measures, including access controls and segmentation, ensuring compliance with organisational and industry security standards.
  • Collaboration & Cross-Training: Work closely with other IT infrastructure specialists (systems, security, etc.) and production teams. Participate in cross-training initiatives to share network expertise and expand knowledge of other IT domains to build team resilience.
  • Documentation & Planning: Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and disaster recovery plans, ensuring clarity for all team members.
  • Operational Support: Provide second and third level support for critical network incidents, requiring participation in an on-call rotation to support or 24/7 operational needs.

Requirements

  • Experience in network engineering or IT infrastructure roles.
  • Prior, demonstrable experience within a broadcast or TV company or a similar high-pressure, 24/7 (or 16/7) operational environment is highly valued.
  • Deep knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF, VRF’s, VLANs).
  • Proficiency in configuring and managing enterprise network hardware, specifically Arista switches and routers.
  • Strong understanding and experience with Wi-Fi networking principles and enterprise solutions.
  • Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds, PRTG).
  • Familiarity with cloud networking concepts (Azure/AWS).
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and fix technical faults quickly under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of liaising effectively with both technical engineers and non-technical production staff.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a dynamic, fast-paced team environment.
  • Experience configuring and managing firewalls is a nice to have.
  • Relevant professional certifications such as Arista certifications (e.g., ACE: Arista Certified Engineer) are highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of broadcast-specific technologies, including practical application of SMPTE ST 2110 and associated audio/video network workflows.
  • Basic scripting knowledge (Python or PowerShell) for network automation.
