Executive Assistant

• The Executive Assistant provides direct administrative support to the Associate Chief Development Officer & Campaign Director and the Global Director of Principal Gifts.
• Provides support for division events, retreats, and committee work.
• Provides back-up support for division toll-free line and Chief Development Officer duties when needed.
• Handles domestic and international travel arrangements, calendar management, drafting correspondence and contracts, monitoring executives’ email, processing expenses and invoices, and coordinating meetings and events logistics.
• Uses systems and resources to maintain, track and research data, and produce and review reports.
• Implements processes and practices to improve effectiveness and satisfy administrative requirements.
• Coordinates activities with multiple variables, setting realistic deadlines and managing timelines.
• Communicates on behalf of executives with staff, donors, vendors, and business relations.
• Performs additional administrative support for individuals, programs, and manages short-term projects as required.

Communications

• Develops, creates and implements communications strategies that align with overall goals for the Pacific Division.
• Provides direction and leadership over earned media, social media, crisis communications and strategic communications.
• Implements an integrated and effective communications and earned media plan to help drive brand awareness and donor engagement and action in the Pacific Division.
• Manages public and media relations, external speaking engagement opportunities, and develops thought leader strategies for subject matter experts (SMEs) and senior leaders.
• Leads and implements strategic communication plans for reputational risk and crisis mitigation.
• Manages one or more staff and facilitates on-going communication between parts of the globally dispersed Marketing division.
• Develops and fosters relations with journalists and key persons in selected media and proactively pitches and places earned media stories.
• Manages communication strategies and program implementation for high profile audiences like Board of Directors, state and country board of trustees, and policymakers.
• Provides consultation, media training, coaching and talking points to spokesperson(s).

Associate Director, Strategic Communications and Media

Director

• Lead the California program as the senior leader and conservation strategist for a large, complex business unit in The Nature Conservancy.
• Hybrid position located preferably in Sacramento, San Francisco, or Los Angeles.
• Focus on fundraising, driving innovation, and people management; lead a team across conservation, science, policy, fundraising, finance and operations.
• Collaborate with peers across the Pacific Division in a leadership team that shapes strategy, development, and execution of cross-boundary efforts within the division and globally, including financial and/or human resources.
• California program has protected 1.4 million acres, 5,000 miles of streams, and 3.8 million acres of ocean habitat; aims to increase pace, scale, and effectiveness of conservation.
• Serve as primary spokesperson for TNC in California to internal and external audiences, including donors, media, government agencies and staff.
• Lead fundraising collaboration with global philanthropy team and executives to raise transformational gifts for TNC’s work.
• Approximately five direct reports and 300 staff; budget of $100 million; six offices across the state.
• Routine travel up to 40% across California, Pacific region, nationally and globally.
