Lead and manage indirect tax consulting and research engagements, with a focus on federal excise taxes and multi-state sales/use tax matters
Advise clients and provide research focused consulting solutions in the fuel distribution sector on taxability, compliance, reporting, and planning opportunities
Oversee, review, and provide consulting solutions surrounding excise tax registrations, tax refund claims, and exemption certificates
Provide operational consulting assistance to clients with their internal excise and sales tax functions
Conduct indirect tax due diligence for M&A transactions, including identifying risks, exposures, and planning opportunities on both buy- and sell-side engagements
Develop and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and industry subject-matter resource
Collaborate with other firm service lines (transaction advisory, assurance, tax, etc.) to deliver integrated solutions
Manage, mentor, and develop staff; review workpapers and reports for accuracy and completeness
Stay current on indirect tax developments, trends, and regulatory changes affecting excise and sales taxes
Requirements
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, taxation, or related field
A minimum of four years of relevant experience in indirect tax, excise tax, or sales/use tax consulting (public accounting, advisory, or industry)
Experience with M&A tax due diligence and transaction advisory projects
Strong excel skills
Strong project management, organizational, and leadership skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax issues in a clear and practical manner
Proficiency with tax research tools and technology platforms
Ability to work additional hours at peak times
Preferred Qualifications:
CPA, EA, or other relevant certification
Masters degree or JD/LLM a plus
Demonstrated expertise with fuel distribution industry excise and sales tax issues strongly preferred
