• Direct the end-to-end editorial and technical flow of a daily live show, including "calling the show" from the control room or overseeing the Director to ensure a high-paced, visually engaging broadcast.
• Lead the daily "pitch-to-air" cycle, managing the show rundown to ensure the perfect balance of breaking news, deep-dive analysis, and audience interaction.
• Direct a specialized crew of technical directors, audio engineers, and camera operators. Foster a culture of "live excellence" where technical hitches are handled with grace and speed.
• Work directly with high-profile hosts and analysts, providing real-time feedback via IFB to guide pacing, tone, and transitions during live hits.
• Oversee the visual aesthetic of the show, leveraging multi-cam setups, remote guest integrations, and real-time graphics to create a premium look.
• Collaborate with the newsroom to ensure live coverage aligns with and spotlights The Athletic’s reporting, and partner with the social/growth teams to maximize the "clippability" of live moments for post-show distribution.
• Work with commercial teams to seamlessly weave live-read sponsorships and custom branded segments into the broadcast without sacrificing editorial integrity.
• Collaborate with production partners and software developers to design custom chat integrations that allow the audience to participate in streams in real time (ex: polls, Q&As, trivia).

Executive Producer, Live Streaming Programs

• Rapidly identify, clip, and edit "must-see" moments from the live broadcast for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and X.
• Ideate and film original, social-first content with show talent (e.g., "fast-fire" Q&As, blind rankings, or reaction videos) that complements the main broadcast.
• Own the "front of house" during live broadcasts. You will moderate the live chat, highlight the best audience questions for the producers, and drive real-time engagement.
• Build and maintain the show’s content calendar. You’ll use data to determine the best posting times, thumbnail styles, and platform-specific hooks to maximize reach.
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the show’s dedicated social handles, ensuring a consistent, witty, and authoritative voice that aligns with *The Athletic* brand.
• Use Premiere, CapCut, or Canva to create compelling visuals, memes, and info-graphics that translate complex sports stories into digestible social snacks.
• Stay ahead of the curve on social trends and algorithm shifts. If there’s a new feature on YouTube or a trending sound on TikTok, you’re the first to figure out how the show can leverage it.

• Work as a one-person band to record the episode using Riverside or Streamyard (livestream specials)

• Run point on the show’s entire production process from big picture / long-lead planning to rundown creation, and from running recordings to executing on final episode delivery
• Manage scheduling, coordination, and logistics to ensure smooth execution of all aspects of show production
• Edit episode video and mix audio to produce high-quality content, and publish episodes to our distribution platforms, utilizing the tools available to amplify reach on platforms like YouTube
• Ensure consistency in style and sound quality across all segments
• Generate and integrate graphics in post
• Conduct thorough research to identify compelling topics and trends relevant to our audience, and key stats for our on-air talent

Head of Social – Off-Platform Growth

Manager

• Commercial planning and analysis: You will translate dense financial data and analysis into high-impact visual narratives for discussions with The Athletic’s leadership team. You'll articulate the "why" behind every major investment.
• Modeling and evaluation: Build clean, flexible financial models to value complex and integrated deals and commercial initiatives across licensing and advertising, as well as other revenue streams.
• Deal construction: Analyze and aid in negotiation of deal mechanics, focusing on minimum guarantees (MGs), revenue shares, and recoupment schedules. You will partner closely with Legal and Accounting to ensure term sheets translate into sound financial realities.
• Post-close performance tracking: Own the "full-lifecycle" of the deal. Once a partnership is live, you are on the hook for tracking actuals vs. benchmarks, managing P&L impact, and providing the FP&A oversight needed to course-correct or double-down.
• Forecasting and variance analysis: Integrate live deal performance into our broader rolling forecasts, explaining variances to leadership and identifying trends in audience monetization and rights costs.

Manager, Commercial Planning – Analysis

People Operations

• Support the Manager, People Partnerships for a designated employee population; act as a day-to-day point of contact for employee questions and manager needs, escalating as appropriate.
• Advocate on behalf of employees to help ensure they have the tools, resources, and support needed to be successful.
• Support the delivery and administration of core People programs (onboarding/offboarding, training coordination, internal communications, and more).
• Build and maintain meaningful relationships with managers and employees through regular, high-touch communication.

• Serve as one of the Sales Directors, helping grow our overall brand advertiser sales revenue via client and agency relationships.
• Manage a book of business with ambitious individual and team quarterly and annual revenue targets.
• Identify new ad partners that have a brand/product that is a strong fit with our listener base, and manage the navigation to the appropriate decision maker for each partner.
• Drive advertising revenue across all of The Athletic’s key platforms and surfaces.
• Define strategies and guide the account management teams in replying to RFPs and client opportunities including program, content, and media plan guidance.
• Share partner insights and sales lessons across the team including new ad products and opportunities our clients are looking for.
• Represent The Athletic brand well.
