Events

• Partner with The Athletic newsroom and editorial leads to develop event concepts and programming that reflect our journalism and audience interests
• Research, identify, and secure talent - including athletes, coaches, executives, and cultural figures – working through outreach, negotiations, and contracting
• Build and shape run of show, including conversation arcs, formats and session structure
• Collaborate with moderators, journalists, and hosts to prepare for on-stage conversations, including briefing materials and prep calls
• Work cross-functionally with internal teams (editorial, marketing, commercial, creative development, production) to ensure seamless execution

Event Programmer

Producer

• Lead the daily editorial meeting and own the "Master Rundown."
• Oversee the writing of all show scripts, intros, and teases.
• Act as the "Line Producer" during the live broadcast.
• Supervise Associate Producers, Production Assistants, and Editors.
• Take "ownership" of complex feature segments.
• Review all video assets and graphics prior to air.
• Lead the post-mortem meeting to analyze what worked and what didn't.

Senior Producer, Live Streaming Programs

• Direct the end-to-end editorial and technical flow of a daily live show, including "calling the show" from the control room or overseeing the Director to ensure a high-paced, visually engaging broadcast.
• Lead the daily "pitch-to-air" cycle, managing the show rundown to ensure the perfect balance of breaking news, deep-dive analysis, and audience interaction.
• Direct a specialized crew of technical directors, audio engineers, and camera operators. Foster a culture of "live excellence" where technical hitches are handled with grace and speed.
• Work directly with high-profile hosts and analysts, providing real-time feedback via IFB to guide pacing, tone, and transitions during live hits.
• Oversee the visual aesthetic of the show, leveraging multi-cam setups, remote guest integrations, and real-time graphics to create a premium look.
• Collaborate with the newsroom to ensure live coverage aligns with and spotlights The Athletic’s reporting, and partner with the social/growth teams to maximize the "clippability" of live moments for post-show distribution.
• Work with commercial teams to seamlessly weave live-read sponsorships and custom branded segments into the broadcast without sacrificing editorial integrity.
• Collaborate with production partners and software developers to design custom chat integrations that allow the audience to participate in streams in real time (ex: polls, Q&As, trivia).

Executive Producer, Live Streaming Programs

• Rapidly identify, clip, and edit "must-see" moments from the live broadcast for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and X.
• Ideate and film original, social-first content with show talent (e.g., "fast-fire" Q&As, blind rankings, or reaction videos) that complements the main broadcast.
• Own the "front of house" during live broadcasts. You will moderate the live chat, highlight the best audience questions for the producers, and drive real-time engagement.
• Build and maintain the show’s content calendar. You’ll use data to determine the best posting times, thumbnail styles, and platform-specific hooks to maximize reach.
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the show’s dedicated social handles, ensuring a consistent, witty, and authoritative voice that aligns with *The Athletic* brand.
• Use Premiere, CapCut, or Canva to create compelling visuals, memes, and info-graphics that translate complex sports stories into digestible social snacks.
• Stay ahead of the curve on social trends and algorithm shifts. If there’s a new feature on YouTube or a trending sound on TikTok, you’re the first to figure out how the show can leverage it.
