About the role
- Take full technical ownership of Rosso, the company's proprietary pricing engine, setting R&D strategy and ensuring continuous improvement
- Design, implement, and deploy machine learning and optimisation models that power real-time pricing decisions at scale
- Lead experimentation on new modelling approaches, optimisation techniques, and risk measurement frameworks
- Provide technical mentorship to ML engineers and data scientists, raising research practices, code quality, and delivery
- Translate business needs into a clear technical roadmap for Rosso, defining success metrics and ensuring alignment with company objectives
- Partner with product managers, engineers, and commercial teams to deliver Rosso’s capabilities into market-facing products
- Consistently evaluate and integrate latest academic and industry advances to keep Rosso at the cutting edge
- Work in a greenfield problem space to shape architecture, modelling approach, and technical strategy
Requirements
- Deep ML expertise with extensive professional experience in data science or ML engineering and a proven record of taking complex models into production
- Hands-on experience designing, building, and operating large-scale cloud-based ML systems (end-to-end ownership)
- Technical leadership: ability to set strategy, provide mentorship, and establish best practices without direct people management responsibility
- First-principles thinker comfortable in greenfield problem spaces
- Collaborative communicator able to explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Product impact mindset: translate business needs into technical solutions that deliver measurable outcomes
- Desirable: PhD or equivalent research experience in applied mathematics, operations research, or machine learning
- Desirable: Experience with linear programming, optimisation, risk management, and pricing systems
- Desirable: Experience with time series forecasting, Bayesian methods, or causal inference
- Desirable: Track record of IP or platform-level ownership
- Desirable: Familiarity with energy markets, trading, or grid operations
- Desirable: Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and MLOps practices
