About the role
- Launch new product at world class quality and cost at pace of customer demand
- Infuse strong DFM/DFA principles to ensure robust, efficient, and cost-effective designs manufacturable at full scale
- Deliver product designs that align with current manufacturing capabilities
- Develop new manufacturing processes to support customer-driven product innovation
- Execute Manufacturing deliverables to the NPD Phase Gate process
- Ensure new process and equipment compliance with TE safety and ergonomic policies
- Provide DFM/A input into early stages of product design
- Perform PFMEA and implement high-risk mitigation plans
- Conduct manufacturing capacity analysis and value stream mapping
- Develop assembly tooling and equipment
- Perform process qualification via capability studies
- Execute sample builds and generate first article inspection reports
- Generate process specifications
- Develop and implement new manufacturing technologies and appropriate automation
- Apply lean manufacturing to drive cost and plant-level productivity improvements on fiber optic processes
- Serve as subject matter expert supporting TE’s global operations footprint and liaise with manufacturing facilities on preliminary cost estimates
- Work onsite with Product Development and Operations
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Optical, or Manufacturing Engineering
- 5 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment (minimum)
- At least 2 years experience related to fiber optic product
- Prior experience with optical manufacturing principles such as single and multi-fiber termination
- Experience with test methods of optical connectors
- Experience with active optical assembly
- Basic knowledge of industry standards surrounding environmental and mechanical performance of optical connectors
- Experience with machine, equipment and process design, development, and deployment into a production environment
- Hands-on problem solver with ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Knowledge and experience implementing Lean Six Sigma principles preferred; Green or Black Belt certification a plus
- Must be able to effectively operate in remote teams with broad geographic footprints
- Excellent time management skills and ability to balance priorities under demanding project schedules
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Proficient with 3D CAD software and Microsoft Office applications
- Must meet ITAR/EAR eligibility: U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee
- Willingness/ability to travel 10% to 25%
