About the role
- Assist in the preparation and development of the State and Local Income Tax team's tax accounting items
- Co-manage the timely and accurate delivery of state compliance filing obligations
- Assist with quarterly delivery and analysis of tax accounting items including current/deferred tax rate calculations, tracking state tax credits and deferred tax assets, and calculating tax reserves
- Maintain state apportionment schedules for the US (Retail and Wholesale) and coordinate with State Tax Planning
- Collect state tax data for state PTR work and ensure liabilities and workpapers accurately reflect credits, NOLs, and deferred tax assets
- Assist with special state tax projects, documentation for state audits, tax planning calculations, amended returns
- Co-manage the preparation, review, and finalization of state income and franchise tax compliance items, including estimates, returns, state apportionment, and addressing state tax notices
- Provide technical expertise and analysis to management and business partners and support other finance/tax teams
- Identify and drive process improvements and contribute to strategic direction by keeping current on emerging issues and accounting changes
- Work autonomously, prioritize tasks, communicate status to team, mentor others
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in accounting
- 5+ years tax accounting experience with emphasis on State and Local Income Tax
- Experience with Financial Institutions preferred
- CPA/MS/MBA preferred
- Must be detail oriented and possess problem-solving skills
- Proficient in oral and written interpersonal communication and can effectively communicate with all levels of staff and management
