About the role

  • Provide a comprehensive and diverse range of risk management expertise to business leaders
  • Lead and support the implementation of appropriate risk frameworks and related management activities to mitigate enterprise and/or business-wide risk exposures
  • Provide oversight, commentary, and recommendations based on overall strategy and industry best practices
  • Integrate knowledge of the enterprise sub-function’s or business line’s overarching strategy in developing solutions across multiple functions or operations
  • Interpret internal/external business challenges and the industry environment, recommend course of action and best practices to improve products, processes or services
  • Act as a technical expert/lead integrating cross-function understanding within area of specialty; may manage team(s) of related specialists
  • Lead cross-functional teams or projects with significant resource requirements, risk and/or complexity
  • Independently manage end-to-end functional programs
  • Solve or lead others to solve complex problems; lead efforts or partner with others to develop new solutions
  • Use sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgement and identify solutions
  • Communicate difficult concepts; convert information to compelling business context and advice; influence and gain alignment across increasingly senior stakeholders
  • Lead the development and/or implementation of specific standards, policies and/or processes that identify, report on and mitigate operational (or all major) risk exposures
  • Proactively analyze potential risks and ensure escalation of key risks to appropriate areas and/or executive review with business executive findings and action plans to mitigate and manage these risks
  • Establish and provide on-going analysis and reporting on operational risk and/or other major risk categories and review findings and action plans with business leaders
  • Coordinate and/or guide activities relating to core operational risk disciplines/programs including, Risk & Control Self-Assessment, Business Continuity Management, Outsourcing & Vendor Management, Regulatory Compliance
  • Support enterprise-wide operational risk escalation, review and approval processes, data management, policies and risk assessment processes
  • Direct the development and monitoring of Key Risk Indicators and facilitate communication and resolution of risk issues among other business segments
  • May manage ancillary operational risk areas (e.g. BCM/incident management, outsourcing/vendor management, fraud aggregation and assessment, Basel implementation/capital analysis, change management, Privacy, AML, LCM and other regulatory issues)

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree or technical certificate and/or 7+ years relevant experience
  • Advanced knowledge of risk management governance, programs, policies, practices, operating frameworks & reporting
  • Knowledge of risk management environment, standards, regulations and mitigation
  • Knowledge of current and emerging competitor and market trends
  • Ability to establish goals and objectives which support the strategic plan
  • Ability to lead, plan, implement, and evaluate program/project activities
  • Skill in mentoring and coaching
  • Advanced skill in using analytical software tools, data analysis methods and reporting techniques
  • Skill in using computer applications including MS Office
  • Candidate must be proficient in using Excel and other Microsoft applications
  • Candidate must feel comfortable in a role that is constantly challenging the business and business leaders related to all ORM Program requirements
  • Must have a comfort level with speaking up in meetings with various levels of the organizational structure
  • Candidate should have a good understanding of ORM Programs
  • Candidate should be certified in Operational Risk Management (preferred)
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships across teams and functions
  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement in making decisions
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
