About the role

  • Manage a portfolio of complex, severe, and litigated Bodily Injury/Liability claims in alignment with TDI legal and governance frameworks.
  • Conduct advanced liability evaluations, risk assessments, reserve analyses, and resolution strategies.
  • Exercise settlement authority responsibly to achieve fair outcomes and protect shareholder value.
  • Provide coaching, direction, and technical support to L2/L3 Analysts.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in BI reserving, litigation strategy, jurisprudence interpretation, and technical consistency.
  • Prepare for and participate in NTAC (National Technical Authority Committee) meetings, including trial plans, budgets, and technical assessments.
  • Prepare for and participate in Large Loss Authority reviews, including MCU worksheets and strategic file presentations.
  • Ensure all recommendations and documentation meet governance and audit expectations.
  • Monitor changes in legislation, case law, and market practices affecting BI/Liability claims.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to leadership on emerging risks and potential procedural or policy improvements.
  • Partner with Legal Services, Actuarial, Underwriting, Governance & Control, and external defence counsel to align strategies and drive quality outcomes.
  • Support FRC and CAT queues during surge events, ensuring continuity of service and technical excellence.
  • Champion best practices that strengthen operational efficiency, customer experience, and claim quality.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and high‑performance culture aligned with TD values.

Requirements

  • University degree in Law, Business, Criminology, Insurance, or related field
  • CIP/FCIP designation (or active progression) strongly preferred
  • 3–5 years of progressive experience in Casualty/Bodily Injury claims, including litigated or high‑severity files
  • Proven expertise in BI reserving, risk assessment, and litigation management
  • Strong understanding of tort law, liability principles, and litigation processes
  • Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and negotiation skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities
  • Demonstrated judgment and commitment to governance and ethical decision‑making
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment
