Serve as the cloud architecture SME for a multi-disciplinary team modernizing a legacy federal case management platform
Design and implement scalable, secure, and resilient AWS architectures using best practices and agency-specific guidelines
Lead cloud migration strategy, ensuring smooth transition from legacy systems to cloud-native environments
Define and implement cloud-native services (e.g., ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3, CloudFront) and serverless components to support business and technical requirements
Collaborate with DevOps, security, development, and UI/UX teams to ensure holistic system integration and compliance
Lead the configuration and management of infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
Design and enforce DevSecOps pipelines to automate builds, tests, and deployments in alignment with federal security practices
Ensure compliance with FedRAMP, FISMA, NIST 800-53, and agency-specific security controls
Conduct system performance tuning, cost optimization, and monitoring using tools like CloudWatch, AWS Config, and Trusted Advisor
Document all architectural decisions, cloud service configurations, and security implementations
Provide SME-level input for technical proposals, documentation, and stakeholder briefings
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
10+ years of experience in IT architecture and systems engineering
5+ years of hands-on experience designing and deploying applications in AWS environments
Deep understanding of cloud-native design principles, microservices architecture, and API-driven development
Strong experience with AWS services, including but not limited to: EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, ECS/EKS, CloudFront, IAM, KMS, CloudTrail, CloudWatch
Experience with IaC tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK
Strong understanding of federal cloud security requirements (FedRAMP, NIST, etc.)
Proficiency with DevOps/DevSecOps practices, CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, CodePipeline), and container orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
Demonstrated success designing or modernizing enterprise-scale systems, ideally for government clients
Strong communication skills and ability to interface with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
US citizenship required
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 DoD security clearance. A current DoD Public Trust clearance is desirable
