About the role
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of electrical equipment for FACTS devices, including fixed series capacitors and synchronous condensers.
- Prepare equipment studies, write specifications, issue purchase requests, and analyze supplier bids.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (control engineering, design, project management) to ensure project success.
- Perform modeling, simulations, and system analyses to optimize electrical design.
- Provide technical support and mentor the professional development of junior engineers.
- Participate in testing and validation of FACTS systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
- Stay current with the latest advances in FACTS system engineering and electrical power system technologies.
- Prepare technical documentation: test plans, training manuals, and user guides.
- Contribute to business development by providing technical expertise and participating in proposal activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline (Master's degree is an asset).
- Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience (or a Master's degree plus 2 years of FACTS experience).
- Strong knowledge of IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards applicable to electrical substation and power system equipment.
- Proficient with Word, Excel, Windchill Imagine, Tableau, ATP, and Python.
- Hands-on experience with control systems, equipment schematics, installation, field testing, and commissioning of HV equipment, with strong safety practices.
- Ability to solve problems analytically and strategically.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrated experience in engineering project management and leadership.
- Adaptable and comfortable working in a dynamic environment.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or eligibility for licensure is an asset.
