About the role
- Develop detailed designs for high-voltage substations, including layouts, equipment specifications, and single-line diagrams
- Design and analyze high-voltage transmission and distribution systems (69kV and above), ensuring compliance with industry standards
- Coordinate with utilities and grid operators to design and implement interconnection solutions for renewable energy projects
- Select and specify high-voltage equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and protective relays
- Perform power system studies including load flow, short-circuit analysis, and protection coordination using ETAP, PSS/E, or SKM
- Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and testing of substations and high-voltage systems
- Ensure permitting and compliance with NEC, IEEE, NESC, and utility-specific standards
- Collaborate with project managers, civil engineers, and other stakeholders to align designs with project goals and timelines
- Support ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting of high-voltage systems and prepare technical documentation and as-built records
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- 3-7 years of experience in high-voltage engineering, substation design, or power systems
- Experience with grid interconnection for solar or energy storage projects
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, PSS/E, SKM, or similar tools
- Strong knowledge of high-voltage equipment, protective relaying, and power system protection
- Familiarity with IEEE, NESC, and NEC standards
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Ability to travel to project sites as needed
- Valid driver’s license
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Detail-oriented with a focus on safety and quality
- Preferred: Experience with utility-scale renewable energy projects, SCADA systems, and energy storage integration
