Serve as data center subject matter expert for electrical, mechanical, controls, and fire life safety systems
Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facility systems including Electrical, Mechanical, Communications, Building Monitoring and Control
Track and trend operational characteristics
Mentor junior staff and provide guidance
Work with the Data Center Manager to track and complete preventive and predictive maintenance schedules
Determine maintenance requirements for mechanical and electrical systems and provide guidance to management
Ensure data center operates at maximum efficiency, analyze operating conditions, recommend new technologies and cost-reduction strategies
Manage systems to avoid unplanned, customer-impacting outages
Manage data floor and back of house mechanical loading capacity to ensure cooling efficiency
Provide applied mechanical and integrated control expertise for the entire data center
Act as primary technical expert for fire and electrical codes
Write procedures for preventative and corrective maintenance activities
Assist Data Center Manager with database management of maintenance discrepancies and resolve site issues with Operations management
Manage trouble ticket and work order completion processes
Support infrastructure projects including cage build-outs, overhead installations, rack and stack
Navigate and utilize a CMMS system
Solve problems using developed procedures and assist in asset and consumable inventory management
Track and label equipment per established procedures and ensure SLA processes and OSS data uploads
Provide physical security within CoreSite premises and day-to-day customer service and support
Incident escalation and report writing
Monitor building fire alarm system and complete regular facility and security tours
Requirements
Expert understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in data center environments including electrical distribution, Transformers, PLCs, Generators, Switchgear, UPS systems, STS, ATS, PDUs, Chilled Water Systems, CRAC/CRAHs, Pre-Action Sprinkler Systems
Expert knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, building codes and compliance issues related to fire life safety
Expert knowledge of fiber optics / cabling infrastructure and industry best practices
Expert knowledge in industrial safety best practices (lockout/tag out, arc flash protection, OSHA and state regulations)
Expert knowledge and experience with data trending / tracking and PC-based integrated critical monitoring systems
Minimum of 5-7 years installing, maintaining, and/or troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems (Chilled Water Systems, Large Centrifugal Chillers, Cooling Towers, Heat Exchangers, Water Treatment Systems, VFDs and Pumps, HVAC equipment, CRAC/CRAHs, Humidification Systems, BMS and PLC Controls, Emergency Standby Diesel Generator Systems, Fuel/Oil systems, 480/277 and 208/120 electrical generation and distribution, Static UPS Systems, Double Interlock Pre-Action Systems)
Proven leadership skills and mentoring experience
Proven expertise in laying out, pulling, dressing, and terminating fiber and copper communications cabling
Experience diagnosing and repairing IT hardware, servers, network switches, structured cabling
Excellent written and oral communication skills including Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
Ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal staff
Ability to coordinate, supervise and communicate with contractors performing maintenance or upgrades
Ability to learn quickly and address issues during normal hours or after hours
Ability to operate in and promote a rigorous process-driven team environment
Ability to logically analyze and solve problems and multi-task multiple projects
Ability to operate hand and machine tools and electrical tools such as a multi-meter or infrared camera
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent time in rate
5 or more years in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities (preference for data center, hospital, or power plant experience)
Must be able to pass an extensive background check including criminal history, references, employment and education verifications, DMV and credit check
Must be willing to work outside normal business hours including weekends, late nights, holidays, and on-call support
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds 1/3 of the time
