About the role
- Supporting the quarterly credit cycle reporting process, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, summarizing executive materials, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards
- Provide technical accounting guidance for a variety of complex transactions that pertain to the Sun Life General Investment Account
- Assisting with the IFRS 9 Expected Credit Loss (ECL) process, summarizing the changes in ECL, and ensuring the accurate capture of results in the P&L and downstream reporting
- Performing ad-hoc investigations to answer queries from various teams and cross-departments
- Maintaining the control environment to ensure key controls are operating as described and supporting quarterly audit requirements
- Leading applicable continuous improvement projects to improve team efficiency and provide added value to internal clients
Requirements
- Experience in the financial services industry with a working understanding of investments and/or insurance
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, change management, influencing skills, and a team player mindset
- Demonstrate ability to make recommendations to management and influence business decisions based on thorough analysis leveraging available data
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet tight reporting deadlines on deliverables
- Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
- Experience working with large data sets and building/improving processes
- Professional finance designation (CPA, CFA, or MBA) preferred
- Investment accounting experience, preferably within the asset management or insurance industry preferred
- IFRS knowledge/experience preferred
- Working knowledge of SAP (or other ledger system), WEBI, Tableau, Aladdin etc. preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft office tools (Excel, Access, PowerPoint etc.) preferred
