About the role

  • Supporting the quarterly credit cycle reporting process, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, summarizing executive materials, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards
  • Provide technical accounting guidance for a variety of complex transactions that pertain to the Sun Life General Investment Account
  • Assisting with the IFRS 9 Expected Credit Loss (ECL) process, summarizing the changes in ECL, and ensuring the accurate capture of results in the P&L and downstream reporting
  • Performing ad-hoc investigations to answer queries from various teams and cross-departments
  • Maintaining the control environment to ensure key controls are operating as described and supporting quarterly audit requirements
  • Leading applicable continuous improvement projects to improve team efficiency and provide added value to internal clients

Requirements

  • Experience in the financial services industry with a working understanding of investments and/or insurance
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, change management, influencing skills, and a team player mindset
  • Demonstrate ability to make recommendations to management and influence business decisions based on thorough analysis leveraging available data
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet tight reporting deadlines on deliverables
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Experience working with large data sets and building/improving processes
  • Professional finance designation (CPA, CFA, or MBA) preferred
  • Investment accounting experience, preferably within the asset management or insurance industry preferred
  • IFRS knowledge/experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of SAP (or other ledger system), WEBI, Tableau, Aladdin etc. preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft office tools (Excel, Access, PowerPoint etc.) preferred
