About the role

  • Responsible for overall coordination of state and federal disaster recovery programs to support the efficient and timely delivery of services to eligible disaster survivors and applicants.
  • Coordinates and assists local and state agencies with recovery program planning, service delivery of recovery programs, including Individual Assistance, Public Assistance, Long Term Recovery, State Mission Assigned Recovery Tasks (SMART), Temporary Housing, and other special programs.
  • Takes the lead role for recovery in coordinating efforts in tracking, reporting, and assisting to resolve unmet needs of communities after a disaster.
  • Coordinate efforts with FEMA, state, and other federal agencies that formed the “Interagency Recovery Coordination” (IRC) group.
  • Manage disaster recovery operations including planning, personnel, contracting, and budget/program management for the Recovery Section.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, urban or regional planning, emergency management, or a field related to the area of assignment from an appropriately accredited institution
  • Five years of experience directing emergency planning or response activities including two years of supervisory experience
  • Expert knowledge of strategic and operational planning processes for emergency management
  • Expert knowledge of the Federal National Disaster Recovery Framework & NC Disaster Recovery Programs
  • Knowledge of management level of FEMA/State Joint Field Office structure and activities
  • Knowledge of State and Federal Disaster Assistance Programs and the Disaster Recovery, Mitigation, and Reconstruction processes
