About the role

  • Manages a team of Environmental Health and Engineering Professionals performing a range of duties related to Florida Department of Health’s clean water programs.
  • Responsible for the oversite of data analysis and entry, review of engineering applications and permit issuance, inspections of pool and limited use wells, confirmation of public notification, sample collection, and enforcement of regulations.
  • Communicates with, motivates, trains, and evaluates employees.
  • Develops performance expectations, meets with staff regularly to discuss performance, completes performance reviews, maintains vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and completes timesheets.
  • Serves as program manager and formulates program policies and procedures.
  • Directs compliance and enforcement in investigating and evaluating complaints and non-compliance issues related to job-specific programs.
  • Conducts studies, prepares reports or Internal Operating Procedures for projects as required or requested.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited US college or university with a major in one of the physical or natural sciences or engineering.
  • Knowledge of the terminology, principles & analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences.
  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection.
  • Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation & grammar usage.
  • Knowledge of standard business formats & styles for letters & business forms.
  • Skill in operating a computer.
  • Skill in using tools, equipment and/or instruments for water analyses.
  • Ability to perform technical inspections.
  • Ability to apply quantitative techniques.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate & analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, document workflow & other activities relating to the improvement of management practices.
  • Ability to Adjust actions in relation to others' actions.
  • Ability to motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.
  • Valid Florida Driver License.
