About the role

  • This position serves as a Local Veterans’ Employment Representative (LVER ) responsible for assisting with the development of the service delivery strategies for veterans and educating partner staff with current employment initiatives and programs for veterans.
  • Conducts outreach to employers and engages in advocacy efforts with hiring executives to increase employment opportunities for veterans.
  • Conducts job search workshops, establishes job search groups, and participates in job and career fairs.
  • Works with federal contractors recruiting Veterans.
  • Advocates for the hiring of disabled veterans and assists all veterans with gaining and retaining employment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the laws governing veterans’ preference in employment and workforce services
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations, Veteran Program Letters, state and local guidance, and programs/opportunities for veterans and covered persons (i.e. Federal Bonding program, federal work opportunity tax credit eligibility, etc.)
  • Knowledge of veterans’ re-employment rights
  • Knowledge of entitlement and priorities of veterans for medical and surgical services in veteran hospitals
  • Ability to prepare reports to include recording, evaluating and analyzing data
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective customer service.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of counseling and case management.
  • Skilled in group presentations or workshop instruction and/or facilitation.
