About the role

  • This position will oversee employees in the planning, directing, and control of all phases of highway maintenance operations including heavy equipment operations.
  • Supervises employees spending the majority of the time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employees’ work.
  • Plans and directs workloads, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with subordinate staff.
  • Provides direction and ensures that all subordinates receive training and instruction in methods and techniques necessary to safely perform their assigned tasks.
  • Coordinate and execute preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance plans to provide a safe transportation system.
  • Oversee employees in the field concerning the planning and control of minor improvement projects on the State Road System.

Requirements

  • A valid Class “B” CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with air brakes is required at time of hire.
  • Must obtain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) - Advanced Level within one year and maintain it.
  • While on-duty status, the incumbent must be readily available to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV).
  • Respond to emergencies and be “on-call” (24 hour duty) when necessary.
  • An unacceptable driving record is defined as three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation and similar conditions as specified.
  • Must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Drug and Alcohol (FMCSA) Clearinghouse for pre-employment query.
  • Applicants hired for this position with a Class E license will be required to obtain a Commercial Learners Permit (CLP) within 60 days of appointment and other qualifications as specified.
