About the role

  • Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory.
  • Participates in employee training, supervision, discipline and maintains good employee relations.
  • Supervises the staff in fiscal and purchasing procedures and policies.
  • Ensures property procedures and policies are applied.
  • Coordinates work schedules and assignments.
  • Checks reports, fee collection and miscellaneous records prepared by the staff.
  • Coordinates interpretive programs, activities, events and schedules for park unit.
  • Meets the public, interprets the resources, facilities and services, resolves problems and provides good public relations.
  • Supervises the staff in providing visitor services.
  • Participates in the supervision of resource management programs applicable to park unit including ecological burning, water level management, native species propagation, erosion control and exotic removal.
  • Identifies maintenance needs through daily inspections.
  • Maintains maintenance schedules and supervises the staff to ensure maintenance on a daily, weekly and yearly basis is regularly performed.
  • Supervises and assists with the maintenance of buildings, roads, bridges, trails, water systems, wastewater systems, vehicles, equipment, etc.
  • Ensures Park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural, historical and archaeological facilities and resources and use thereof, for the enjoyment of the visitor.
  • Promotes safety throughout the park, ensures equipment and facilities are safe and provides guidance to staff on safety practices.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Pack test qualified (preferred)
  • Knowledge of management principles, practices and techniques
  • Knowledge of Florida ecosystems and the resource management techniques
  • Knowledge of building maintenance and construction including issues related to ADA compliance
  • Knowledge of maintenance and operation of vehicles, heavy equipment and power tools
  • Knowledge of computers and related hardware and software
  • Basic arithmetic skills
  • Ability to supervise people
  • Ability to prepare and maintain schedules for staff
  • Ability to provide effective leadership and training for career service, OPS, volunteer and AmeriCorps staff
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to conduct trainings, meetings, interpretative programs and orientations for diverse groups of participants
  • Ability to conduct inspections of park facilities, vehicles and equipment
  • Ability to participate in park maintenance and resource management activities
  • Ability to work rotating schedule including days, nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to reside on park property in a 3 bedroom/1.5 bath house
  • Must successfully complete background and fingerprint check.
