About the role

  • This position is responsible for advanced level work with the Escambia County Health Department (Escambia CHD) requiring specialized skills and independent decision making.
  • This position spends the majority of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities.
  • This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees’ work.
  • The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action.
  • The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensure proper coverage, and complete timesheets.
  • This position will coordinate breastfeeding services for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program and supervise WIC Health Support Technicians and Breastfeeding Peer Counselors.
  • Provide technical assistance for community partners including hospitals, businesses, childcare centers, maintain breastfeeding equipment inventory, and collect and analyze data related to breastfeeding initiation and duration to inform best practices within the WIC program and the community.

Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years work experience
  • Hold an Internationally Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) credential, Advanced Lactation Consultant (ALC), Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC), or Advanced Nurse Lactation Consultant (ANLC) credential
  • At least 2 years experience assisting Breastfeeding Dyads
  • Able to load and transport equipment that weighs up to 25 pounds
  • Preferred - Bachelor's degree in Health Education or a master's degree in Health Education
  • Completed and passed a minimum of eight college courses from an accredited institution in the health sciences: Human Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, Infant Growth and Development, Nutrition, Counseling Skills, Sociology, Introduction to Clinical Research
