About the role
- This position serves a leadership role in the Analysis and Rulemaking Section of the Division of Marine Fisheries Management, supervising regional biologists in Titusville, West Palm Beach, and St. Petersburg.
- Responsible for coordinating and developing marine fisheries policy and rulemaking for state-managed species.
- Responsible for technical planning, leadership, evaluation, and administrative assistance to the Sub-section.
- Establishing networks of stakeholders, guiding technical analyses of marine fisheries data, and leading special projects.
- Synthesizes technical fisheries assessment information in support of the agency’s marine fisheries rulemaking process, reviews and interprets stock assessments and fisheries regulations, evaluates life history and fisheries-dependent and independent data, and develops reports and presentations on marine fishery issues.
Requirements
- Eight years of professional experience directly related to duties and responsibilities of this position.
- A degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in marine biology, life or physical science may substitute for the required experience as follows: Bachelor's degree and four years of professional biological experience in a field or laboratory program; or A Master of Science degree and three years of professional experience in a field or laboratory program; or A doctorate and one year of professional experience in a field or laboratory program.
- Knowledge of computer software, including SAS, Excel spreadsheets, MS PowerPoint, and MS Word, is required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal history check in accordance with Chapter 435, Florida Statutes.
- Some travel is required and may include weeknights, weekends and holidays.
