About the role

  • Supervises employees spending the majority of the time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employees’ work
  • Plans and directs workloads, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with subordinate staff
  • Provides direction and ensures that all subordinates receive training and instruction in methods and techniques necessary to safely perform their assigned tasks
  • Develops, coordinates, and participates in the roadside maintenance program
  • Conduct routine highway maintenance inspections
  • Train crew members in the proper identification and inspection of defective areas
  • Develops work schedule and assigns routine maintenance activities for the Department of Corrections (DOC) crews
  • Issues daily work assignments to DOC officers and provides them with the appropriate tools, equipment and materials to complete assignments
  • Performs field inspections to verify the quantity and quality of work completed
  • Ensures work is performed in compliance with Standard Indexes and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) policies and procedures

Requirements

  • Possess a valid Class "B" CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with air brakes is required at time of hire
  • Must obtain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) – Advanced Level within one year
  • Knowledge of department regulations, policies and procedures relating to highway maintenance operations
  • Knowledge of Maintenance Management System (MMS) guidelines and production standards
  • Ability to interpret roadway design standards, maintenance rating standards, specifications and plans
  • Ability to inspect completed maintenance projects to ensure quality products
  • Ability to supervise others in the completion of routine maintenance activities
  • A valid Class B driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy.
