About the role
- Assists the nurse in her assessment and counseling of individual students
- Maintains a record of the medical needs of all students with special health care needs
- Obtains vital signs as indicated, recording results on a daily health room activity log
- Prepares a monthly, weekly, and daily health room activity log of students visiting the health room for the nurse
- Assists nurse in screening for pediculosis
- Refers students to the nurse that have positive results for counseling and treatment as indicated
- Assists students in the administration of prescription medications, as prescribed by school board policy
- Performs vision and hearing screening on individual students
- Makes appropriate referrals to the designated school personnel concerning students that need to be referred to the school nurse or principal
- Assists the nurse in evaluating immunization status of all children entering school
- Provides students with First Aid and CPR if indicated in emergencies
- Maintains the health room in an orderly and clean manner at all times
- Responsible for the inventory of medical supplies used in the health room on a weekly basis
Requirements
- Driver’s License
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- CPR certification (preferred)
