The Biological Scientist III is an OPS position working in the Overdose Data to Action-Local (OD2A-L) program at the Florida Department of Health in Broward County (DOH-Broward).
This program is grant funded by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC).
This position works under the direct supervision of the OD2A-L Program Manager, within the Division of Community Health.
The incumbent of this position will serve as the program’s Data Analyst, driving data-informed decision-making within the OD2A-L initiative by using informatics and statistical tools to analyze, model, and visualize public health data.
The incumbent will help uncover trends, patterns, and predictive signals in overdose-related data - insights that directly inform prevention strategies and community health efforts.
Additionally, this position requires utilization of complex epidemiologic analytic techniques and involves collection of information regarding individual case reports as well as participation in outbreak investigations.
Through this position, DOH-Broward will enhance the timelines of morbidity and mortality data by conducting drug overdose surveillance, using Florida’s syndromic surveillance system (SyS), Electronic Surveillance System for the Early Notification of Community-based Epidemics (ESSENCE) data investigation.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience performing duties related to data informatics and analysis.
One (1) or more years of experience conducting epidemiological case investigations (preferred).
One (1) or more years of experience with/knowledge of using R, SAS, SQL, or ArcGIS (preferred).
One (1) or more years of experience using ESSENCE (preferred).
One (1) or more years of experience with/knowledge of conducting statistical modeling and interpreting results in a public health context (preferred).
One (1) or more years of experience with providing written and verbal presentations, including translating complex data findings into actionable insights for diverse audiences (preferred).
