About the role

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise construction projects from start to finish.
  • Oversee daily operations on construction sites.
  • Manage schedules and costs, coordinate subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Review blueprints and contracts, ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, architects, engineers, and workers to address challenges.
  • Resolve issues and track progress while maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Participate in employee orientation, training, counseling, and performance evaluations.
  • Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with contract documents.
  • Prepare responses to contractor's requests for changes to the contract documents.
  • Conduct public relations activities to resolve conflicts with citizens affected by projects.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the concepts, terminology, principles of road and bridge construction and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of engineering design, construction, production and/or operations.
  • Knowledge of Construction Project Administration Manual.
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution and negotiating techniques.
  • Skills in contract administration and related activities between the department and contractor.
  • Skills in using computer software applications.
  • Skills in utilizing problem solving techniques.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to implement programs necessary to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Ability to direct, monitor and inspect engineering projects.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret engineering data.
  • Licensure with the State Board of Professional Engineers under Chapter 471 Florida Statutes.
  • A valid Class E Driver’s License is required.
