About the role
- Provides comprehensive health care to clients attending any of the 5 school-based health clinics
- Conducts patient intake, vitals, and history when nurse is absent
- Administers medications and monitors special diet carb counting when nurse is absent
- Evaluates and performs complete physical examinations
- Analyzes and interprets patient histories, symptoms, physical findings, and/or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses
- Diagnoses and treats acute health care problems such as illnesses, infections, or injuries
- Orders, conducts, interprets, and/or evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's condition
- Orders, reviews and interprets laboratory tests to identify and assess patient's condition
- Prescribes and administers medications based on patient characteristics, efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized
- Makes medical diagnosis and prescribes treatment within scope of service
- Develops treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines
- Makes appropriate follow ups and referrals
- Educates patients about self-management of acute and chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients' individual circumstances
- Responds to medical emergencies on school grounds
- Communicates with school staff and emergency responders regarding patient needs and follow up
- Completes case management, including record review and lab review
- Communicates with outside providers and specialists regarding care of students
- Communicates patient needs with parents/guardians as appropriate while ensuring confidentiality according to Florida State Statute
- Provides consultation and technical assistance in evaluating the appropriateness of client care
- Documents all services in EHR timely and accurately
- Communicates with clinic team and other colleagues
- Complies with all selected HEDIS measure, standards and selected goals for quality of care
- Ensures that all requirements are met, including program objectives, productivity, service activities, and target population
- Provides excellent customer service
- Supports the growth of practitioner students by precepting
- Assists with training of new clinical staff members
- Learns and applies concepts of continuous quality improvement
- Participates in quality improvement projects and initiatives within the program and across the DOH organization
- Assists in the development of policy and protocols related to the management of nursing care problems and the delivery of client care
- Keeps supervisor informed
- Completes timesheet, EARS, and mandatory training in a timely and accurate manner
- Completes incident reports in a timely manner
- Completes training to promote professional growth
- Participates in peer review and provider, team, and other meetings as assigned
- Schedules time off in advance and collaborates with supervisor to ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent
Requirements
- Florida licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in accordance with Florida Statue 464
- Maintain current CPR certification every two years
- At least 3 years of experience working in a medical office setting (preferred)
- Extensive computer skills, including the use of an electronic health records
- 1 Year of working in a public health setting (preferred)
- Experience leading a clinic team (preferred)
