About the role

  • The OPS Health Educator promotes, maintains, and improves individual and/or community health and safety by assisting individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors.
  • Conducts educational classes and/or presentations to targeted audiences related to such topics as safety and drowning prevention.
  • Assists with class scheduling, supply, and inventory management and planning activities.
  • Prepares and disseminates educational and informational materials.
  • Maintains daily class records as well as personal time records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Can swim at an intermediate to advanced level
  • The ability to perform multiple swim strokes at an intermediate to advanced level, and to teach these skills to others at varying levels and ages using American Red Cross guidelines.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with people of different ages and backgrounds.
  • Ability to perform water rescue skills and CPR in accordance with the American Red Cross Lifeguard training guidelines.
  • Good listening ability
  • Skills at oral and written communications
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize & organize work assignments and work independently
  • Active listening skills, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
  • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
