About the role
- Develop and Review Policies: Create, review, and update rules, procedures, and technical manuals for the Bureau of Classification Management.
- Evaluate and ensure staff actions align with department policies, and correct any errors found.
- Respond to Inquiries: Answer questions from field staff, other agencies, and the public about classification rules and policies through written, electronic, and phone communication.
- Maintain Classification Systems: Help develop, maintain, and modify classification systems on the Offender Based Information System (OBIS) and web applications, including programs, screens, and reports.
- Handle Grievances and Legal Documents: Research and respond to inmate grievance appeals related to classification issues.
- Prepare documents and affidavits for court petitions involving classification issues when requested by the Office of the General Counsel.
- Training and Support: Develop training courses and lesson plans for new Classification Officers, including scheduling and logistics.
- Provide guidance, technical support, and training to classification staff, other department staff, outside agencies, and the public.
- Conduct background reviews for staff hiring and coordinate special reviews with institutional staff.
Requirements
- Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Must have seven (7) years of experience working in a professional Classification, Correctional Officer Series, or Probation Officer position ( professional classification includes Classification Officer or higher; Correctional Services Assistant Consultant or higher).
- Applicant must have at least: ONE (1) year of experience as a Classification Supervisor-SES and/or other Classification-SES -SES positions in the Region/Central Office; or At least FIVE (5) years of experience as a Senior Classification Officer; or At least FOUR (4) years of experience as a Senior Classification Officer and a college degree.
