About the role

  • Responsible and accountable for the scope of work for the comprehensive chronic disease prevention and control program in Community Health Florida Department of Health Palm Beach County Health Department.
  • Create or maintain stand-alone county tobacco-free partnerships, including local Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) chapters.
  • Establishing policy and systems changes to eliminate secondhand smoke exposure.
  • Establishing local policy and systems changes to promote cessation from tobacco use.
  • Serve as a liaison between the health department, Bureau Tobacco Free Florida, young and adult organizations, business, worksites, and other local agencies.
  • Serve as a resource to assist individuals communities to reduce the burden of tobacco use and shape tobacco-free norms for tobacco to becomes less acceptable and accessible.
  • Develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets.
  • Provides technical assistance and guidance; planning principles health promotion and practices required to meet the goals outlined in the workplan.
  • Performs community needs assessments and surveys to identify strategies for Chronic Disease Prevention, adult use reduction and policy development to effectively control chronic diseases including tobacco use, access and exposure to secondhand smoke.
  • Actively participates on local committees, boards, and coalitions to promote the mission of the agency and program.
  • Develops and submits the Quarterly and annual Tobacco prevention workplan. Ensure all documentation is accurate and complete for the reports. Submits report as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Tobacco prevention and use reduction in the area of cessation, secondhand smoke, and youth prevention
  • Knowledge of Tobacco prevention resources
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate health promotion programs, interventions and strategies
  • Ability to collect and analyze data
  • Knowledge of community mobilization, coalition development and retention
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of health promotion and public health education
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of community-based health promotion planning
  • Ability to evaluate health education practices for compliance with applicable statutes, rules and regulations
  • Ability to prepare reports
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to supervise people
