About the role

  • Support the growth and development of the water and wastewater teams across a variety of market sectors.
  • Perform more complex engineering design tasks on assigned projects in collaboration with a Design Manager and/or Project Manager, including design basis development, engineering calculations, engineering drawings, engineering specifications, engineering reports, client presentations and required applications to regulatory and/or funding agencies and quality reviews.
  • Engage in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Provide leadership and direction for the proper execution of engineering deliverables for various projects, proposals, and studies.
  • Assist with establishing the technical and performance standards for projects.
  • Assist project managers with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule.
  • Lead preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own products and facilitate independent technical review of projects.
  • Review contractor/vendor submittals for adherence to Contract Documents and industry standards.
  • Respond to contractor Requests for Information (RFIs) and develop Design Changes for active construction projects.
  • Assist with the management of the design and construction of projects.
  • Be involved in the permitting process of projects, which may require meeting with clients, contractors, interested stakeholder parties, and reviewing agency personnel.
  • Research and understand issues related to regulatory and other drivers that impact individual projects.
  • Ensure that project needs are met in a timely and effective manner.

Requirements

  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to perform hydraulic calculations.
  • General understanding of all phases of project document production, client procurement procedures, and regulatory approval processes.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients, contractors, equipment suppliers/vendors, funding agencies and reviewing agencies; to deliver technical presentations in public forums in conferences and technical symposia.
  • Possess excellent time-management skills; thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting and efficient use of time and available resources.
  • Understanding of local and regional jurisdictional codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite, Bluebeam/ Adobe.
  • Experience with software, such as Fathom, Hysys, Biowin is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Chemical, Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • A Professional Engineering designation in State of California.
