About the role
- Work on multiple projects and be responsible for individual tasks on complex projects.
- Perform complex engineering design tasks on assigned projects collaborating with the Project Technical Lead or Project Manager, including engineering drawings, calculations, engineering reports, specifications, presentations, and various contract documents.
- Engage in design development through sketches, diagrams, digital models and other visual formats developed through coordination with project team members and our CAD and graphics teams.
- Prepare and revise documentation and drawings in various project phases including design reports, schedules, drawings, details, calculations, and construction cost estimates.
- Participate in project coordination meetings with internal and external team members, potentially including Owners, Clients, and Contractors.
- Coordinate regularly and effectively with other team members while working on projects, complete tasks and delegate specific project tasks to other team members as appropriate.
- Assist and coordinate with the Project Manager, Project Technical Lead and other project team members to advance and complete production of project deliverables including drawings, specifications, tunnel- and trenchless-specific reports such as Geotechnical Data Reports and Geotechnical Baseline Reports, and other parts of contract documents.
- Assist and coordinate with the Project Manager and Project Technical Lead to develop and manage portions of the project scopes, budgets, staff and schedules as needed.
- Contribute to projects as a Tunnel / Trenchless Subject Matter Expert (SME) by participating in workshops or reviews for quality assurance and quality control, constructability, value engineering, risk management.
- Support the project team in providing services during construction that can include submittal reviews, responses to contractor requests for information, participating in meetings with the contractor or owner, and providing input on items as requested such as change orders or claims reviews.
- Assist with business development efforts by identifying potential pursuits and teaming partners, assisting with proposal preparation, and participating in interviews and presentations.
- Mentor and supervise staff to advance staff technical and professional capabilities and develop high-performing technical teams.
Requirements
- A self-starter who is innovative and enjoys working in a team environment without direct supervision.
- An individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with willingness to frequently participate and collaborate in a team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Able to effectively communicate project issues with clients, stakeholders, reviewing agencies, and contractors as may be necessary.
- An experienced tunnel and/or trenchless designer, preferably with construction-phase experience.
- Organized and has excellent time management skills.
- Has general familiarity with the phases of project document production, client procurement procedures and regulatory approval processes.
- Knowledgeable about tunnel and trenchless means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Is proficient in Microsoft Office 365 suite of applications, as well as relevant specialized design software packages. Familiarity with relevant computational modeling software is a plus.
- Able to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
- Able to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Has or is interested in developing or enhancing marketing and proposal skills and presentation skills.
- Able to travel for design or construction tunnel or trenchless roles.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil/Geological Engineering from an accredited university. A post graduate degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or Structural Engineering is preferred.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in California or ability to obtain a license within 12 months of hire. Additionally, there will be a need to obtain a PE license in other states as required.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in tunnel or trenchless design or construction activities and related geotechnical or structural engineering input. Additional experience is preferred.
