About the role
- Work from Home Monday to Friday | 12 AM to 9 AM Philippine Time *Following US Holidays
- Case Management: Open and maintain case files, gather and analyze intake information, and collect key documents (e.g., medical records, wage statements, incident reports).
- Organize and manage physical and digital case files ensuring accessibility and accuracy.
- Track and manage critical deadlines, including Declarations of Readiness, discovery responses, and objections, using case management software (e.g., CASEFRIEND).
- Ensure compliance with California Labor Code Section 132a and WCAB (Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board) procedures.
- Legal Document Preparation: Draft pleadings, discovery requests (interrogatories, requests for production), motions, and settlement agreements for attorney review.
- Prepare trial binders, exhibits, and witness materials for hearings and trials.
- File legal documents using the Electronic Adjudication Management System (EAMS) and other appropriate platforms, ensuring adherence to court requirements.
- Client and Witness Interaction: Communicate with clients (employers, insurance adjusters), medical evaluators (AMEs/QMEs), and opposing counsel to schedule depositions, medical evaluations, and meetings.
- Draft PQME/AME letters and prepare schedules of records and medical indices.
- Discovery and Research: Review and summarize medical records, deposition transcripts, and other case-related documents to identify key issues and support case strategy.
- Trial and Hearing Support: Assist attorneys in preparing for hearings, mediations, and trials by organizing documents, exhibits, and coordinating witness testimony.
- Draft pre-trial documents and provide general case management support throughout the litigation lifecycle.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Legal Studies, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a paralegal, preferably with U.S.-based legal teams.
- Proven experience in general legal support and legal document preparation.
- Strong understanding of U.S. and/or California legal procedures and state regulations.
- Prior experience with California Workers' Compensation law is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with legal case management software such as CASEFRIEND is an advantage.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Highly organized with the ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines.
