About the role
- Negotiate, prepare, draft, review, approve and interpret contracts and other legal instruments.
- Interpret and implement applicable state and federal laws, rules and policies.
- Prepare memoranda and correspondence responding to questions of law and policy.
- Perform or oversee the performance of legal research necessary to draft and analyze various contracts, policies, and other documents to advise internal clients.
- Provide counsel on health care laws including on privacy, government programs, fraud and abuse, physician self-referral and anti-kickback laws, and EMTALA.
- Provide guidance on billing, coding, and other reimbursement matters for compliance with government and commercial health plan requirements.
- Review and monitor compliance policies and procedures and investigate and resolve compliance concerns.
- Provide counsel for legal aspects of patient care with significant medico-legal dimensions.
- Provide advice and counsel in conflicts of interest and other related compliance issues.
- Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree; admitted to practice; member of the bar.
- 5+ years increasingly responsible law firm and in-house experience, preferably in a healthcare environment.
- Significant knowledge of laws and regulations regarding health care regulatory, corporate, compliance and transactional matters (e.g., Stark Law, Anti-kickback Statute, HIPAA, professional fee coding and documentation)
- Demonstrated negotiating experience.
