About the role
- The Director of Transportation and Customs Compliance is responsible for the movement of products for Sol de Janeiro’s global operations domestically and internationally.
- The role combines the management of transportation operations and customs clearance, with the strategic thinking of a global operations leader who embraces technology and continuous improvement.
- The Director will lead a team of internal resources and outsourced partners to effectively balance service and spend across Over the Road (OTR), Air, Ocean, Rail and Parcel modes.
- Oversee end-to-end global freight operations.
- Manage a team of transportation operators to execute Ground, Air, Ocean and Rail Execution.
- Manage a 3rd party parcel company relationship to ensure Direct to Consumer (DTC) and internal parcel shipments move effectively and efficiently.
- Generate, track, update, and course correct the transportation budget for all modes.
- Implement track & trace visibility tools.
- Manage carrier and 3rd party relationships.
- Manage Monthly and Quarterly business review cycles with carriers and transportation partners.
- With internal procurement resources, execute transportation and brokerage bid cycles.
- Oversee global customs clearance leveraging Customs Brokerage firm relationships.
- Manage an in-house licensed customs broker to ensure compliant import / export operations – documentation, broker oversight, and audits.
- Monitor legal changes and advise on organizational adaptation and impact minimization.
- Develop and maintain global policies for HTS classification, duty drawback, FTAs and document retention.
- Ensure policies and SOPs are thoroughly documented, accessible and regularly updated.
- Define, monitor, and present KPIs related to transportation costs, customs performance and delivery.
- Use data analytics to support strategic decisions (e.g. duty optimization, operational modeling, carrier selection, insource/outsource).
- Implement track & trace visibility tools; identify improvements and drive innovation.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team across regions.
Requirements
- Minimum 10+ years in global logistics, supply chain, including transportation and trade compliance.
- 5+ years in leadership roles with global teams.
- Bachelor’s (Supply Chain, International Trade, Business). Masters preferred.
- Licensed Customs Broker and/or Certified Customs Specialist / Export Compliance Officer preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
- Proficiency using an analytics platform (Domo, Looker, Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
- High senses of urgency, integrity and adaptability to fast-changing environments.
- Excellent communicator able to influence global stakeholders, regulators, executives and peers.
