About the role

  • Provide guidance and direction for the daily operations and compliance of water and wastewater treatment systems across Smithfield facilities
  • Craft standard operating procedures, guidelines, and compliance documents to meet local, state, and federal regulations
  • Deliver training and guidance to operators to enhance system functionality and navigate challenging conditions
  • Ensure environmental compliance and develop innovative methods for efficient treatment across potable water and wastewater treatment
  • Serve as subject matter expert in wastewater operations pretreatment, anaerobic, aeration (including BNR), and disinfection
  • Improve data driven decision making to improve efficiency and reduce costs while ensuring 100% compliance
  • Assist Senior EHS Directors in establishing and maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations and corporate requirements
  • Assist Regional EHS Managers in maintaining a safe working environment and uniform application of EHS programs
  • Assist in developing and implementing corporate policy, programs, and training materials and ensure effective implementation at assigned facilities
  • Ensure facilities are inspection/audit ready and assist in addressing and closing out findings
  • Lead regulatory compliance disputes, including with OSHA, EPA, Chemical Safety Board, coordinating with internal and external legal teams
  • Participate in corporate training and business meetings as appropriate
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 10+ years relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development is required
  • Ability to make strategic decisions while in stressful situations including leading emergency response efforts
  • Energized by collaboration through travel to other locations 50% of the time depending on the initiative being executed
  • Experience in Wastewater treatment operation, management, and leadership in the protein industry (preferred)
  • Excellent knowledge of Water and Wastewater regulations
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for drafting reports, business correspondence, and procedures in English
  • Effective presentation skills and ability to responds to questions from a diverse audience
  • Bilingual skills preferred but not required
  • Detail oriented
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
