Job Level

About the role

  • You will own the entire design function at Smartnumbers: user research, interaction design, prototyping, design system, and facilitation.
  • You will work as a close partner to two Product Managers and their engineering teams across our fraud prevention and upcoming new products.
  • This is an opportunity for a designer who wants real ownership and influence.
  • You will have direct customer access, a tight Design, Product, and Success team feedback loop, and no layers of approval.
  • You are the design authority.
  • You decide which customers to speak to, which problems to investigate, and how the product should feel.
  • You work directly with Product Managers and engineers to ship work grounded in user evidence.
  • Success in this role means features ship with user validation, design quality remains high across the portfolio, and the team consistently makes better product decisions because of the research, facilitation, and design thinking you bring.

Requirements

  • Circa 5 to 8 years of product design experience in B2B SaaS or enterprise software environments
  • Strong user research skills: interview design, usability testing, synthesis, and problem framing
  • Confident and proactive communicating directly with enterprise customers without needing support
  • Expert in interaction and visual design: clarifying data, indicating relationships, and hinting at behaviour using colour, style, iconography, typography, and visual hierarchy
  • Proficient in Figma (or equivalent) for wireframing, prototyping, high-fidelity mockups, and engineering handoff
  • Ability to create and facilitate workshops with cross-functional stakeholders to drive outcomes
  • Demonstrable use of AI design tools to accelerate design output and increase personal throughput
  • Proven experience as the sole or primary designer on a product team, comfortable owning the full design function without peer support or a design manager
  • Understanding of design systems and component-based UI architecture
  • Good understanding of the agile product development process, with the ability to enhance user experience in small iterative deliveries
  • Organised documentation practices so research and design decisions are accessible to the wider team on demand.
Benefits
  • Hybrid working style, with the expectation of two days in the office (with a great City of London office base!)
  • Family friendly benefits including paid parental leave policies
  • An extensive health insurance policy for you, with an option to add your family members
  • A workplace pension with Hargreaves Lansdown
  • Life insurance of 4 x your salary
  • A discretionary annual bonus of up to 10% of your salary
  • Weekly self-development time to spend exploring your professional development interests
  • 25 days of annual leave (plus bank holidays), your birthday off, and an opportunity to buy up to 5 days annual leave per year
  • A holistic wellbeing support plan encompassing a variety of offerings to assist you. We provide you with a monthly £50 allowance to fund activities to best support your wellbeing as well as workshops and training to provide tools and guidance.
  • Additionally, there is a wide-ranging employee assistance programme available to advise on personal, family or financial matters, and also fun social events during the year.
