About the role
- Support the team with import and export documentation according to customs regulations, laws, or procedures.
- Interfaces directly and often with internal stakeholders, external customers, and carriers.
- Utilizing the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and Code of Federal Regulations, ensure all products comply with CBP regulations.
- Request or compile necessary import documentation, such as customs invoices, certificates of origin, and cargo-control documents; function as liaison with governmental agencies.
- Stay abreast of changes in import or export laws or regulations by reading current literature, attending meetings or conferences, or conferring with colleagues; train internal SMA employees as needed.
- Support/training and provide direction to Transportation Coordinators as needed.
- Validates customs broker invoices and approvals for payment, resolving invoicing disputes when necessary.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience.
- More than 5 years of relevant work experience on either the carrier or shipper side.
- Working knowledge of all carrier modes (air, parcel, ocean, FTL, LTL, flatbed).
- Proven carrier management experience required.
- Working experience maintaining and using a TMS preferred.
