About the role
- Extensive experience with FAS109 tax accounting, including tax accounting for stock based compensation/FIN48.
- Performs diversified accounting, auditing, and tax assignments under the direction of supervisor, manager or partner.
- Demonstrates competency in technical skills, work quality, and application of professional and Firm standards.
- Meets time constraints and client deadlines.
- Participates in planning and scheduling client engagements.
- Directs and instructs assistants, where applicable, in work to be performed and working paper review.
- Determines the extent of test-checking required in an audit and selects the transactions to be tested.
- Prepares and indexes working papers; performs various procedures established under generally accepted accounting principles to verify accuracy and validity of client’s financial matters.
- Prepares complicated tax returns, and returns on dissolution or liquidation.
- Suggests client tax planning ideas to supervisor, manager, or Partner.
- Prepares routine correspondence to client for approval and signature of a Partner; writes comments for management letters.
- Drafts reports including footnotes.
- Proactively takes ownership of projects, seeing them through to ultimate completion & delivery to client.
- Performs the broadest range of accountant tasks so that direct participation of supervisors, managers, or Partners is kept to a minimum.
Requirements
- THIS POSITION REQUIRES A BACHELOR’S DEGREE (OR FOREIGN EQUIVALENT) IN ACCOUNTING, FINANCE, OR IN A CLOSELY RELATED FIELD, PLUS 4 YEARS OF WORK EXPERIENCE IN THE JOB OFFERED OR CLOSELY RELATED OCCUPATION.
- IN THE ALTERNATIVE, THE EMPLOYER WILL ACCEPT A MASTER’S DEGREE (OR FOREIGN EQUIVALENT) IN ACCOUNTING, FINANCE, OR IN A CLOSELY RELATED FIELD, PLUS 3 YEARS OF WORK EXPERIENCE IN THE JOB OFFERED, OR CLOSELY RELATED OCCUPATION.
- Public accounting, demonstrating a progression in complexity of auditing and accounting tasks and tax knowledge.
- Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP, PivotTable and formatting excel charts.
- Accounting and tax software like Quickbooks, CCH, Lacerte, BNA, Caseware, Sureprep, etc.
- Review financial statements according to accounting principles GAAP and propose adjusting entries.
- Research complex tax issues using internal revenue code and other tax research software like BNA, etc.
- Review of tax regulations to compliance with federal and state tax laws.
- Tax reconciliations including resolving financial statements discrepancies.
- Prepare quarterly and annually tax planning for proper payments of federal and state taxes.
