About the role
- Experienced Staff Accountants have demonstrated an ability to capably perform the functions of a staff accountant and to take on certain more complex tasks.
- Experienced staff accountants are given a wider variety of diversified accounting and tax assignments under the supervision of different professionals.
- Performance is judged based on the quality of work, application of accounting knowledge, and ability to meet time constraints.
- Records transactions in ledgers, prepares trial balances and simple financial statements using computer software program.
- Reconciles accounts to control accounts.
- Performs schedule computations of accruals, property and equipment, and calculates depreciation expense.
- Works effectively within given budgetary parameters; assist staff in prioritizing and managing their workload. Approaches projects with a sense of urgency and is completion orientated.
- Performs audit or review procedures as assigned by supervisors.
- Prepares payroll tax, sales or other local tax and certain personal income tax returns.
- Performs other accounting, auditing and tax duties as needed in engagements and as assigned by supervisory personnel.
Requirements
- THIS POSITION REQUIRES A MASTER’S DEGREE (OR FOREIGN EQUIVALENT) IN ACCOUNTING, FINANCE, BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION OR CLOSELY RELATED FIELD PLUS 1 YEAR OF WORK EXPERIENCE IN PUBLIC ACCOUNTING, OR CLOSELY RELATED OCCUPATION.
- IN THE ALTERNATIVE, THE EMPLOYER WILL ACCEPT A BACHELOR’S DEGREE (OR FOREIGN EQUIVALENT) IN ACCOUNTING, FINANCE, BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION OR CLOSELY RELATED FIELD PLUS 2 YEARS OF WORK EXPERIENCE IN PUBLIC ACCOUNTING, OR CLOSELY RELATED OCCUPATION.
- Proficient in preparing Corporation, Partnership, Non-profit Organization, Trust and individual tax returns including 1120,1120S,1065,990,1041,1040.
- Capable of preparing simple US international tax forms, including 5471, 5472, 1042, 1042S, 8804, 8805, and FBAR, showcasing proficiency in complex tax regulations.
- Effectively prepares payroll tax, sales and other local tax returns.
- Records transactions in ledgers, prepares trial balances, and simple financial statements.
- Performs schedule computations of accruals, property, and equipment, including calculating depreciation expense, based on standards and previous workpapers.
- Works effectively within given budgetary parameters, capable of prioritizing tasks and managing workload. Approaches projects with a sense of urgency and is completion-orientated.
- Proficiency with computer and tax software, such as Microsoft Excel and accounting software including Microsoft, Axcess, SurePrep, Caseware, BNA, CFS, and Quickbooks.
- Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and the application of these principles to various tax preparations.
- Ability to conduct tax research, understand technical tax issues and apply Internal Revenue Code and tax regulations to client situations.
