About the role
- Own the finance function end to end, including systems, processes, controls, and outputs
- Take responsibility for the current state of the books and lead a full clean-up to audit-ready standards
- Treat finance as a core business function, not a support service
- Personally lead the month-end close process until it is operating smoothly and predictably
- Deliver accurate, timely management accounts with clear explanations of performance versus budget and prior periods
- Ensure all balance sheet accounts, intercompany balances, and cash movements are fully understood and reconciled
- Build and maintain GAAP-compliant accounting across all entities
- Own and rebuild finance processes in Xero, ensuring it is set up correctly and used rigorously
- Define and implement best-practice controls, workflows, and documentation
- Establish audit-ready standards across all entities, at all times
- Improve reporting, automation, and data quality as the business scales
- Own cash flow forecasting with a high degree of accuracy
- Manage treasury activities, including FX exposure and international cash movement
- Provide forward-looking insight to support hiring, investment, and growth decisions
- Ensure smooth delivery of statutory accounts, audits, and tax filings across regions
- Oversee VAT, corporation tax inputs, and R&D tax credit processes
- Ensure compliance with UK, US, and international financial regulations and standards
- Act as the primary point of contact for auditors and external advisors
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Finance Coordinator
- Work side by side with the Coordinator during the clean-up and stabilisation phase
- Set clear expectations, standards, and accountability within the finance function
- Act as a trusted finance partner to the leadership team
- Translate financial data into clear, actionable insight for non-finance stakeholders
- Support strategic decision-making as the company continues to grow rapidly
Requirements
- You are a resident of the UK and fluent in English
- You are professionally qualified (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA)
- You have strong, hands-on experience as a Financial Controller or senior finance lead
- You are comfortable owning messy books and rebuilding them properly
- You have deep, working knowledge of GAAP accounting rules and apply them confidently
- You have strong, hands-on experience with Xero and expect to be in it daily
- You have experience working with or within US-based businesses and handling US finance requirements
- You are equally comfortable doing the work and setting the direction
- You take real ownership and accountability for outcomes, not just oversight.
