About the role
- Define and lead the integrated Life and Annuity product strategy, determining where and how the organization competes across product lines and distribution channels.
- Develop and execute a multi-year product roadmap aligned with enterprise strategy, market opportunity, and capital objectives.
- Translate competitive intelligence, market trends, and advisor insights into differentiated product solutions that drive sustainable growth.
- Ensure the product portfolio remains competitive, innovative, and aligned with evolving customer and channel partner needs.
- Own pricing strategy and governance across the life and annuity portfolio.
- Provide final approval authority for new product pricing recommendations prior to regulatory filing.
- Ensure product designs meet profitability targets and align with capital objectives and enterprise risk appetite.
- Balance disciplined trade-offs between growth, margin, and risk to optimize long-term financial performance.
- Represent Securian with key industry and regulatory organizations (e.g., ACLI, NAIC, LL Global).
- Monitor emerging industry, regulatory, and economic developments and translate insights into proactive product and pricing strategies.
- Maintain senior relationships with key distribution partners to ensure product strategy aligns with market demand and advisor needs.
- Partner with leaders across the company; Distribution, Finance, ERM, Asset Management, Legal, Marketing, Operations, and Enterprise Technology to deliver product launches and enhancements.
- Establish governance, prioritization frameworks, and execution cadence for product initiatives.
- Drive consistent delivery of high-quality product launches and ongoing portfolio optimization.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of actuarial and product development leaders.
- Build a strong pipeline of future actuarial and product leadership talent.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in insurance, financial services, or a related industry.
- Deep expertise in life insurance and annuity product development, pricing, and portfolio management.
- Demonstrated ability to translate market insights into innovative product strategies that drive profitable growth.
- Strong understanding of capital management, financial performance drivers, and enterprise risk considerations within insurance product design.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through influence in a complex, matrixed organization and align senior stakeholders.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Experience representing an organization with industry bodies, regulators, or major distribution partners.
- Proven ability to manage talent, develop high-performing teams and champion team culture.
- Proven ability to work in a matrix, shared services operating model.
- Preferred Qualifications: Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or comparable actuarial designation.
- Experience leading both life insurance and annuity product portfolios.
- Prior executive leadership experience in a large insurance or financial services organization.
