About the role
- Operate as a strategic, full-stack design leader—deeply engaged in every stage of the design process, from user research and systems thinking to interaction, visual, and experience design
- Lead end-to-end design efforts across responsive web, native mobile, and in-store digital experiences, ensuring cross-platform consistency and best-in-class interactions
- Act as a design thought partner to senior stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Customer Experience
- Drive the strategic application of Scout’s brand across all digital touchpoints—layout, color theory, typography, tone, and iconography
- Mentor and guide multidisciplinary designers, fostering a culture of feedback, growth, and collaboration
- Partner with engineering leads to champion a scalable design system and component strategy
- Define and uphold design excellence, contributing to best practices, team standards, and frameworks
- Operate with a high degree of autonomy, prioritizing and managing multiple complex initiatives
- Collaborate closely with the Design Director to shape broader design culture, processes, and team development roadmap
- Attend in-person meetings and company events regularly and travel on behalf of the company from time to time
Requirements
- 7+ years of end-to-end product design experience, with a proven ability to lead design initiatives that deliver meaningful business and customer impact
- A compelling, polished portfolio that demonstrates deep expertise across responsive web, mobile (iOS/Android), and digital ecosystems
- Demonstrated success in establishing and scaling visual and interaction design systems across platforms
- Expert knowledge of interaction patterns for responsive web and native mobile applications
- Outstanding communication and storytelling skills, with a track record of influencing cross-functional partners
- Proficiency with industry-standard tools, including Figma (we are looking for a deep Figma expert), and fluency in prototyping, motion, and documentation workflows
- Experience mentoring or coaching other designers
- A strategic mindset, able to balance user needs, brand integrity, and business objectives
- Comfortable with change and flexible in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- This role may be based out of a Scout Motors location in Fremont, CA or remote within the United States; this role is not eligible for remote work in New York City
- The responsibilities require attendance in office with in-person meetings and events regularly and the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events from time to time
