About the role
- As Scoutʼs Assistant Manager of Preconstruction, lead engineering, procurement, and construction planning for utility-scale wind, solar and battery projects through preconstruction phase.
- Develop relationships with technical consultants and manage them to deliver technical work products.
- Interface with Development, Interconnection, Site Assessment, GIS, Procurement, Construction and Operations teams to optimize project design.
- Scope engineering and design work, manage execution to budget/schedule, review technical drawing and specification deliverables.
- Lead value engineering exercises to maximize financial performance.
- Evaluate equipment suppliers, draft RFPs, conduct competitive selection processes, and develop technical exhibits for contracts.
- Develop construction strategy, identify resource needs, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Perform technical due diligence on project acquisition opportunities and travel to remote project locations for site inspections and constructability reviews.
- Perform risk assessment analysis and provide BOP cost estimates to support Finance and Origination.
- Create Level 1 and Level 2 EPC schedules and align stakeholders on critical path activities.
- Support Development efforts including permitting and landowner meetings.
- Contribute to process improvement, business cases, and integration of software tools as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelorʼs degree in engineering or a relevant technical field required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as an engineer or project manager focused on the engineering, procurement, or construction aspects of planning and executing utility- scale wind, solar or BESS projects
- Solid knowledge and understanding of key value drivers for wind, solar and BESS projects.
- Experience providing preconstruction cost estimates based on industry knowledge.
- Demonstrated ability to review and revise plans and specifications for civil and electrical work.
- Experience with developing contract exhibits for BOP contracts.
- Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, project management, problem-solving and team-building skills.
- Ability to solve problems and make informed decisions quickly.
- Proficient with computers with strong working knowledge of: MS Excel, SharePoint, Google Earth, ArcGIS or GlobalMapper, Bluebeam Revu, MS Project or similar scheduling software.
- Abilities in Civil/Electrical design software a plus.
- Experience working with cross-functional internal and external technical advisors and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a flat organization, successfully leveraging the expertise of multiple colleagues.
- Ability to manage 2-3 projects concurrently.
- Must have a valid current driver license, and able to travel and perform field work.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
