About the role
- Creation and preparation of content for press work and offering various formats and topics to editors
- Prioritization and management of media inquiries and support for subject-matter experts during interviews or background briefings
- Proactive, strategic expansion and maintenance of reliable contacts with media representatives
- Preparation and logistical organization of press trips in coordination with Save the Children country offices and team leadership; independent business travel as needed
- Planning and implementation of additional press activities with a high degree of initiative, such as briefings, training and events
- Supervision of student assistants
- Contribution to the strategic development of press work to strengthen brand and topical presence in a changing media landscape
- Close collaboration with other departments and teams (e.g., Advocacy, programme departments, Fundraising and Marketing) to coordinate communications measures
- Acceptance of additional tasks in agreement with team leadership
Requirements
- Completed university degree in communication, journalism, media studies or comparable qualifications and experience
- Several years (+5 years) of professional experience in a press office or editorial department
- Established contacts with journalists and media professionals, particularly in local and regional media
- Excellent written and spoken German and English
- Strong command of style and the ability to present complex issues appropriately for target audiences
- Strong research skills and organizational abilities
- Interest in current news as well as political and social developments
- Desirable: knowledge of German and international humanitarian aid and development cooperation
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills combined with a high degree of initiative
- Creativity, social skills and a strong sense of responsibility
- Reliable, flexible and solution-oriented working style
