About the role
- Supervises the activities of assigned laboratory personnel and ensures those activities are performed safely and in accordance with approved procedures.
- Implements standards, policies, practices and disciplined operations ensuring employees are informed and adhere to rules and regulations.
- Ensures laboratory technicians are trained and qualified for their activities and are physically fit to perform the work.
- Coaches, teaches, mentors, and provides technical and administrative expertise to laboratory technicians.
- Acts as primary mentor for laboratory technicians (especially in the area of Disciplined Operations).
- Directs emergency operations and leads laboratory personnel in emergency activities.
- Coordinates laboratory work involving production and other support groups.
- Identifies housekeeping and facility material condition deficiencies to the appropriate organization(s) for corrective action.
- Maintains logs and documentation of all laboratory and facility events in accordance with facility operating procedures.
- Identifies equipment issues and understands their impact to continued laboratory operations.
- Initiates detailed work requests to resolve such issues.
- Plans and schedules laboratory personnel assignments and work/job requests in order to provide the most cost-effective service to the customer.
- Assumes responsibility of specialized duties when directed by Laboratory Management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Chemistry and laboratory experience; or High School Diploma and experience as a trained laboratory technician.
- 3+ years’ experience as a salary grade L3 Senior Laboratory Technician meets minimum qualifications.
- Successful completion of facility qualification process which includes extensive classroom and formal on-the-job training.
- Mechanical aptitude, computer literacy, and good interpersonal skills needed.
- Good written and communication skills as well as skills in planning, time management, and negotiation.
- Practical experience in laboratory techniques and familiarity of laboratory instrumentation in a laboratory setting is very desirable.
