About the role
- Actively participates in the overall safety program for Sanford by identifying potential risks within Health Services division facilities that impacts patient safety.
- Responsible for managing safety events related to patients, visitors, physicians, and employees within the patient safety evaluation system.
- Leads, facilitates, and advises key stakeholders, department leadership, vice presidents and chiefs of medicine and nursing during analysis, deliberation and action planning of safe events and day to day patient safety concerns.
- Manages the day-to-day operation of patient safety programs and provides guidance to providers, clinical and leadership staff.
- Develops and maintains systems with the organization to detect, monitor, prevent, organize, measure, investigate, report, and manage patient safety events and other indicators of potential patient harm.
- Conducts cause analysis of harm events and those with potential to cause harm.
- Collaborates with peers in Quality, Infection Prevention and Control, Compliance, Accreditation, Legal and others to identify and facilitate improvement initiatives based upon findings of cause analyses.
- Compiles and analyzes patient safety data for dissemination to operations and leadership.
- Prepares summaries for tracking, trending and analysis of event data.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare related field, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Five years clinical experience required.
- Knowledge of regulatory, licensure and accreditation regulations related to patient safety or risk management is desired.
- Must currently hold an unencumbered registered nurse (RN) license with the State Board of Nursing.
